On 11/7/2019 at 5:07pm White County 911 received a call stating that a female subject had came to his residence asking him for help. He advised she had visible burns on her body and advised him that her son had set fire to the house and pushed her into the fire. Advised the fire was 4 houses down from the caller on Superior Lane, Crossville, IL.

Units from the White County Sheriff's Department arrived and located the female subject, a Cathy Brandenstein. She had severe burns on a major portion of her body. White County Ambulance had been dispatched to the scene.

The residence was located on Superior Lane. There was a small fire on the porch area and the living room area had visible flames and the house was smoke filled. An effort was made to locate Andrew Swanner, son of the victim. Mr. Swanner was located walking down the road in front of the house a short time later.

Mr. Swanner was held at that point, and transported to the White County Sheriff's Department. Subject was checked by medical personnel and charged with Aggravated Domestic Battery. He is being held on no bond at this time.

The Illinois State Fire Marshal Office was notified and came to the scene to conduct the investigation.

Fire Departments from Crossville, Carmi, Little Wabash Fire Protection District were on scene to extinguish the fire.

Mr. Robert A. Mullins, age 55, 405 Hamill Street, Crossville, Illinois was arrested on a White County Warrant on August 5, 2019 by Crossville Police Department. The warrant was the result of a detail conducted by the White County Sheriff's Department and the Southern Illinois Drug Task Force. Mr. Mullins was charged with Unlawful Delivery of Methamphetamine. Mr. Mullins is being held at the WHite County Jail on $5,000.00 cash bond. Further arrest are anticipated.

James E. Steele, age 28, Enfield, Illinois, was arrested on a White County warrant by the White County Sheriff's Department on August 3, 2019. Mr. Steele was located at Lewis Scrap Yard in Burnt Prairie. The warrant was for Violation of Order of Protection with a $1,000.00 cash bond. It was determined that Mr. Steele was riding a Honda 300 Four Wheeler which has been reported as stolen from Enfield. Mr. Steele was also charged with Possession of Stolen Property. Mr. Steele is being held in the White County Jail.

At 11:27am on 7-18-19 the White County Sheriff's Office was advised of a possible attempted child abduction at Enfield, IL.

Sheriff Doug Maier and Sgt Craig Poole responded arriving at the residence, 119 Mulberry Street in Enfield, IL at 11:29am.

Two boys age 7 and 9 advised a red van/suv had pulled up beside them while walking and offered them candy. They also ask them if they needed a ride. The boys said they cannot take candy from strangers and the vehicle then left. They said there was no attempt to force them into the vehicle. The vehicle had 4 male subjects in the vehicle. Advised they all appeared to be teenagers.

The Sheriff's Office received information about the owner of the vehicle and were able to determine the four subjects inside the vehicle. Four juvenile subjects (age 14-16) were the individuals who had talked to the boys.

All four juveniles and their parents came to the Sheriff's Office and were interviewed.

The four all admitted that they were the ones who talked to the boys. The driver of the vehicle was the only one who spoke to the boys. The juvenile who offered the boys candy said he thought the situation would be funny but now understands the seriousness of the situation and understands the turmoil that the incident as caused.

The report will be forwarded to States Attorney Denton Aud to determine if criminal charges will be filed.

The White County Sheriff's Office has made an arrest in the burglary from White County Coal on 7-14-19 and 6-24-19.

Information lead to a residence located at 651 County Road 1375E, Carmi,IL. Danny L. Stephens resides at this residence.

A vehicle parked at the residence matched the vehicle used during the burglary. Several items matching what was taken during the burglary were still in the bed of the truck. Danny L. Stephens came to the door of the residence and advised the vehicle belonged to him. Stephens signed a consent to search residence. Inside the residence several glass smoking pipes with suspected methamphetamine were located. Also located 9 cannabis plants under a grow light.

Mr. Stephens was placed under arrest and transported to the White County Jail. Bond will be set on a variety of charges.

The vehicle was towed from the residence.
