Fatal 3-Wheeler Accident (3-27-2016)
The White County Sheriff’s office was notified that two juveniles were missing from the Maunie area at approximately 7:54 PM on 3-26-2016. They were last seen on a 3-wheeler somewhere in the area between 141 and Maunie. White County Deputies, assisted by the Illinois State police, searched the area extensively for approximately 4 hours when White County Dispatch received information at 11:53 PM that the subjects had been located.
White County Deputies arrived and observed a 3-wheeler down a steep ditch embankment. 16 year old Christian Coaliron of 165 S. Land St. from Manuie and 15 year old Kaitlyn Gwaltney of 405 Rudolph St. from Crossville were both deceased at the scene. Indications are that the 3-wheeler missed a turn in the roadway and skidded into the ditch. This occurred on County Road 850 North at the intersection of County Road 1775 East.
White County Coroner Chris Marsh was called to the scene and an Illinois State Accident Reconstruction Officer was requested to assist in the investigation. The White County Sheriff’s Office is handling the accident.

Train / Vehicle Collision (3-20-2016)
On 03/19/2016 at approximately 11:45 PM White County Dispatch was advised of a motor vehicle accident involving a train and a single vehicle on County Road 900 East.
Deputies responded and observed a passenger vehicle which had been struck on the driver’s side by a train owned by Evansville Western Railway. The driver of the vehicle identified as 17 year old female Logan E. Pugsley of 1431 County Road 1225 North; Carmi, IL. was trapped inside the vehicle at the time of the deputy’s arrival. A passenger identified as 20 year old Jacob A. Walters of 104 Peach St.; Lynnville, IN. was also in the vehicle but appeared to have minor injuries.
The White County Ambulance Service responded, extracted Ms. Pugsley, and air transported her to the hospital.
Mr. Walters was transported by ambulance.
Conductor of the train advised he saw the vehicle approaching the crossing and did not feel they were going to stop. He braked the train and slowed but could not stop before impact.
Evansville Western Railway is conducting an investigation to be shared with the White County Sheriff’s Office.

A search warrant was issued by States Attorney Denton Aud and executed at a residence located at 1322 W. Sycamore St., Carmi, IL. The warrant was a result of a lengthy investigation y the Southern Illinois Drug Task Force.
Three subjects were arrested at this location, and a quantity of drugs and currency were seized. Arrested at this location were:

The White County Sheriff’s Department announced that the 10th National Prescription Drug Take-Back will take place September 26th from 10:00 A.M. until 2:00 P.M. local time in every state but Pennsylvania and Delaware, where the event will take place on September 12. As with the previous nine Take-Back events, sites will be set up throughout communities nationwide so local residents can return their unwanted, unneeded, or expired prescription drugs for safe disposal.
The Collection site for White County will be in the lobby of the White County Sheriff’s Department. You may also go to www.dea.gov for additional sites in every local community.
The National Prescription Drug Take-Back addresses a vital public safety and public health issue. Many Americans are not aware that medicines that languish in home cabinets are highly susceptible to diversion, misuse, and abuse. Rates of prescription drug abuse in the U.S. are at alarming rates, as are the number of accidental poisonings and overdoses due to these drugs. Studies show that many abused prescription drugs are obtained from family and friends, including from the home medicine cabinet. In addition, many Americans do not know how to properly dispose of their unused medicine, often flushing them down the toilet or throwing them away – both potential safety and health hazards.
“Prescription drug abuse is a huge problem and this is a great opportunity for folks around the country to help reduce the threat. Please clean out your medicine cabinet and make your home safe from drug theft and abuse.
This program is in cooperation with Elastec Incorporated. All drug items will be destroyed with the Drug Terminator at a later date.

FATAL TRAFFIC ACCIDENT (9-15-2015)
ON 9-14-15, AT APPROXIMATELY 5:15 AM THE WHITE COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE WAS NOTIFIED OF A TWO CAR ACCIDENT ON COUNTY ROAD 1500E AT INTERSECTION OF COUNTY ROAD 1400N.
A SKYLER LEE KUYKENDALL, AGE 29, 307 WINKLER ST, CROSSVILLE, ILLINOIS AND A KEVIN D. STOCKE AGE 55, 1428 COUNTY ROAD 1800E, CARMI, ILLINOIS WERE INVOLVED IN THE ACCIDENT.
IT APPEARED THAT MR. KUYKENDALL HAD FAILED TO STOP AT A STOP SIGN, STRIKING MR. STOCKE IN THE PASSENGER SIDE OF HIS VEHICLE.
BOTH SUBJECTS TRANSPORTED FROM SCENE BY WHITE COUNTY AMBULANCE SERVICE. MR. STOCKE WAS TAKEN BY AIR-EVAC TO EVANSVILLE AND MR. KUYKENDALL TAKEN TO HAMILTON MEMORIAL HOSPITAL.
MR. KUYKENDALL DIED A SHORT TIME AFTER BEING TAKEN TO HAMILTON MEMORIAL HOSPITAL.
